I have seen many pictures of people floating effortlessly in those spaceship looking pods so I wanted to see what it was all about.
Floating means to float on the surface of a super-saturated salt solution. Thanks to the high concentration of salt in the water the human body “floats” effortlessly on the surface of the water without having to use any special breathing techniques or contracting of the muscles. A sensation of weightlessness is felt and as the body further relaxes, it enables a deep sense of contentment. In absolute peace and quiet, the nervous system and brain are no longer stimulated by external senses. This reduction of stimuli also enables physiological relaxation thanks to inner mental peace.
Well it sounds easier than it is, usually I am great at relaxation breathing techniques and meditation but I found this out of my comfort zone and actually struggled to completely relax, a friend advised me that it can hurt your neck, she was right half way through the session I realized I had been holding my head up and started getting stiffness in my neck. I booked for a 1hour session but actually left after 40minutes as the water got cold and I got a little bored. I don’t think I will try it again but I would be interested to hear other people opinion.
